Police are investigating after two women were assaulted and a handbag was stolen at Ipswich this morning.

Around 3.30am two women were walking on Brisbane Street when they were approached by a group of four females, one asking for money.

When refused, one of the group punched one of the victims in the face causing minor injuries.

The second victim was also punched, sustaining no physical injury, and had a handbag stolen.

The victims escaped in a taxi as the offenders ran off.

One of the group is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, 170cm tall, of slim build and with black hair. She was wearing a white singlet and a coloured dress.

The other females in the group are all described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance.
