Update – Charleville and surrounding areas flooding information
Police continue to encourage residents who have been evacuated from low lying areas, to stay or register their whereabouts via the Charleville Evacuation Centre at the Charleville Showgrounds.
Police and other authorities will conduct a door knock in areas affected during the 1997 floods again tonight to ensure residents remain evacuated from the area.
Police are urging residents not to return to their home if they were affected by floods in 1997 as the risk of flooding remains for those areas.
Currently there are almost 600 people who have sought refuge in the evacuation centre and a further 15 who have registered but found shelter elsewhere.
A resupply of water to the evacuation centre will occur today and food is not considered an issue at this stage.
As of yesterday police were kept busy in providing emergency assistance to people on rural properties isolated by flood waters in the Augathella region.
Sandbagging is occurring in the lower parts of the Augathella levee wall and people in low lying areas are self evacuating.
Police will resupply the residents of Quilpie with essential items during the weekend and the people of Thargomindah are currently conducting their own resupply. Flooding in these areas continue to be carefully monitored.
At this stage there are no resupply concerns for Cunnamulla.
Cunnamulla has an 11.1 metre levee wall which will continue to be monitored for flood risk.
Police would like to stress to residents in flood affected areas to not drive through flooded causeways and listen to radio broadcasts from the Local Disaster Management Group and police regarding flood related updates.
People evacuating from flood affected areas can also register online at www.redcross.org.au. Registration at the evacuation centre remains available.
